The second edition of Matt Jacobson's book "Adventure Cambodia," has hit the shelves.
A bit delayed, but then the publisher does run on "Thai time," it
is a must for anyone wanting to really explore Cambodia.
Good maps of provincial towns with restaurants, hotels, etc, marked make it easy to poke around Cambodia's nether regions.
In the main population centers have bars, restaurants and hotels
listed but not the never ending lists you find in Lonely Planet etc. |
|
The bulk of the low end guesthouses/hotels are skipped because
there are so many of them and the author is not too keen on backpackers
as is displayed in a warning about Serendipity beach,
"backpackers present."
This edition is much fatter than the old one with plenty of info on
day-trips and sights to see around the country.
Matt has listened to some criticism of the first edition, paring the
fire hazard warning section down to a third of the size (he was a
fireman), and putting in more landmarks for bike trips as not all of
us have a working odometer (speedo) although he does go to
great lengths saying that the hire shops will connect them for you
(good in theory but this is Cambodia and it may depend on which
side of bed the guy got out of that morning).
Good travelling precautions are given with blunt warnings about
scams and rip-off's on the way which is well deserved as like any
other country all is not sweetness and light as most travel brochures/
books portray.
All in all a great book if you want to get off the beaten track and
explore the countryside.
