Get your Kicks on Route 66
Route 66 has always been a must
do ride for motorcycle enthusiast who come to Cambodia, but I have met people that have
done it on the back of motos. Route 66 heads east from the Temples of Angkor into the
jungle at the temple of Beng Melea and continues over many ancient bridges to the temple
of Preah Khan also known as Prasat Bakan. The temple has been heavily looted and efforts
are in place to try to maintain what is left. Our journey began with a stop at Kuha Nokor
in Kampong Thom Province about 23K north of the Spider Capital Skun. From there we made a
brief stop at Bakong and the Roulos Group of temples on the outskirts of Siem Reap. The
next day we visited Beng Melea briefly before heaing into the jungle. Losing daylight we
spent the night in Kuav. The next day we made it to Prasat Bakan then to Prasat Damrei in
the village of Ta Seng. Prasat Damrei is actually part of the Preah Khan temple plan. From
Prasat Damrei we headed south to the town of Stoung on NR 6 before finally making it into
Kampong Thom late that evening.
